How to Get Your U-Step Covered by Medicare

How to Get Your U-Step Covered by Medicare

Many years ago when I first engineered the U-Step, I was a young man trying to make a functional walker for my mom. I didn’t focus on gaining Medicare coverage;  I simply wanted to solve a problem for someone I loved.

When I was seeking advice from an expert in medical products, he was in disbelief that I hadn’t researched the topic of Medicare coverage before creating the product. He quickly checked into a few things on his computer and said, you are very lucky – there is a Medicare code for your product.  I still remember him rebuking me – saying don’t make a medical product without first checking if there is a code for it! I was fortunate that there was a Medicare code for neurological walkers and my product met the criteria.

I always say that if a walker helps a person walk more safely, it is not a luxury, it is a necessity. For years, U-Step was distributed all over America through Medicare, helping thousands of people live better, more stable lives. I am proud to say that today, the U-Step walker is the only neurological walker covered by Medicare and other insurances.

How can you purchase your U-Step Neuro through Medicare?

Qualifying for Medicare Coverage

Medicare will cover the U-Step Neuro for patients living with Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, and other neurological conditions. Medicare also extends coverage to individuals who need a one-handed brake system due to a weakness in one or both hands.

Getting the U-Step Neuro Covered by Medicare

Over the years, we have done our best to streamline the paperwork required to start the Medicare process. If you would like to obtain a U-Step covered by Medicare, here is what you need to do:

  1. Contact In-Step to discuss your insurance coverage.
  2. If you qualify, your doctor can write a prescription on your behalf and forward it to In-Step.
  3. As a national Medicare provider, In-Step will submit your claim to Medicare on your behalf.
  4. After purchasing your U-Step, you can expect to receive a Medicare reimbursement of 60-65% of the cost within 30-45 days.

I do my best to ensure that all individuals living with a neurological condition can obtain a U-Step, which is well suited for their condition. In cases where a customer is not eligible or for those who are not covered by Medicare or other insurances, U-Step offers discounts and sponsorships. And as always, we welcome you being in touch to let us know how we can help at walkers@ustep.com.
